Focus On Campus

Updated:  11.1.22

Below summarizes CUNY's approved HCCS alignment to CDC guidelines for the SY 2022-23.  The K-12 student experience with COVID-19 protocols will largely mirror the DOE; CUNY protocols remain in place for students taking classes at Hunter College and for Faculty, Staff and Visitors.

The Hunter College Campus Schools, under CUNY’s direction, follows the CDC’s guidance for individuals who are required to isolate.  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/quarantine-isolation.html

As HCCS monitors the best practices for the health and safety of our community and balances the needs of our academic priorities, we remind you that the plan is subject to change based upon new federal, state and city guidance.

EXPOSED INDIVIDUALS
If you have been exposed to COVID-19:
  • Individuals who are up-to-date on their vaccinations do not have to quarantine
  • You should monitor for symptoms for 10 days.

ISOLATION REQUIREMENTS
If an exposed individual tests positive/develops symptoms for COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status:
  • Isolation is required for all individuals when diagnosed with COVID-19.
  • If you have COVID-19 or have symptoms, isolate for at least 5 days.
  • Individuals (regardless of vaccination status) can end isolation after 5 days if symptoms have ended or are improving.
  • Students are NOT required to provide proof of negative test to return to school

 CALCULATING ISOLATION
Day 0 is your first day of symptoms or a positive viral test.
Day 1 is the first full day after your symptoms developed or your test specimen was collected.
If you have COVID-19 or have symptoms, isolate for at least 5 days.

REPORTING A POSITIVE CASE

Any individual who receives a POSITIVE COVID-19 test result must report it to the HCCS.  HCCS will share this data with the Hunter College COVID Liaison, CUNY and DOH.  You may do so using this form: https://forms.gle/7G5kHNzWJWpsoo5i9

If a student must isolate and needs academic support, please contact the appropriate Assistant Principal for assistance:

HCES  (Gr K-6) Mr. Adisa eadisa@hccs.hunter.cuny.edu
HCHS  (Gr. 7-9) Ms. Zenon jz3217@hccs.hunter.cuny.edu
HCHS (Gr. 10-12) Ms. Antonio ma7246@hccs.hunter.cuny.edu

HCCS faculty and staff are subject to CUNY isolation and random testing protocols for employees.  Employees must contact Hunter College if they test positive and must notify their direct supervisor.

Notifications

When a positive case is reported in an HCES class, the ES main office assistant will notify the class parents that a case has been reported.  The school will not engage in individual contact tracing.

HCHS students are expected to notify close contacts of potential exposure; the school will not engage in individual contact tracing.

CUNY is tracks positive cases and maintains a public reporting dashboard which will continue to be updated with HCCS information. You will find HCCS positive COVID-19 cases reported here: https://www.cuny.edu/coronavirus/#tracker
  • Results of  CUNY mandated faculty/staff random testing program are reported in the first three columns for Hunter College Campus Schools.
  • The combined ES & HS student reported cases will be reflected in the Hunter College Campus Schools column “Positives from Non-CUNY sites*”
  • NYSED is no longer requiring schools to report daily positive cases to the state, therefore, HCCS will no longer disseminate daily reports.

Vaccination & COVID-19 Testing
Vaccination is not mandated for K-12 students but it is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.

Vaccinated students are invited to upload proof of vaccination status to the school.   Contact the Campus Schools Director's Assistant, Ms. Van Schendel at ev51@hccs.hunter.cuny.edu  If your child has received a booster shot, please upload that information here:  https://forms.gle/1GEAXmgSGr1Ns6kb9

Vaccinations are no longer required to participate in high-risk extracurricular activities including high-risk PSAL sports. (11/1/22)
Vaccination is required for all CUNY employees.
Vaccination (or proof of negative PCR test within 5 days) is required for visitors to CUNY campuses.
Vaccination for eligible individuals (including booster shots) can be obtained through H+H/Met as well.   Contact Ms. Van Schendel for more information ev51@hccs.hunter.cuny.edu for more information.

COVID-19 Testing
  • Home test kits provided by NYS are available at school if your child has been exposed to COVID-19.  HCCS will distribute test kits provided by NYSED while supplies continue to be provided.
  • Community members are reminded that they may conveniently access PCR COVID-19 testing at no cost through our partner H+H/Metropolitan.
  •  You may find other testing sites here: https://www1.nyc.gov/site/doh/covid/covid-19-rapid-testing.page
  • Please note:  the CUNY sites offering PCR testing are not available to HCCS students, only faculty and staff.
