Welcome to Hunter College High School

Dear Class of 2032 Families,

On behalf of Hunter College High School (HCHS), it is my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to our vibrant and dynamic community. As Director of Admissions, I want to congratulate you on your acceptance to Hunter and celebrate the exciting journey that lies ahead.

What makes our Incoming Sevens so special is the incredible diversity you bring to our school. You come from every borough of New York City, from public schools, independent schools, religious schools, and home schools. Some of you speak more than one language at home, and all of you bring unique stories, experiences, and perspectives. After a winter that tested the resilience of New Yorkers everywhere, it feels especially fitting to welcome a class that has already demonstrated curiosity, determination, and adaptability. Together, you will help create a rich learning environment where curiosity thrives, friendships flourish, and ideas come to life.

At Hunter, we pride ourselves on fostering not only academic excellence but also personal growth, creativity, and a strong sense of community. You will find that your classmates will both challenge and support you, opening your eyes to new ways of thinking and helping you discover your own voice.

Once again, congratulations on your acceptance to HCHS! We are thrilled to welcome you to the Hunter family and look forward to watching you learn, grow, and make your mark as the Class of 2032.

Warmest regards,

Sabra S. Pacheco

Dear Class of 2032 Families,

We are delighted to welcome you to the Hunter College High School community. All of us at Hunter share your excitement and remember what it felt like when our own children began their journey at HCHS.

Everyone is welcome to play a part, large or small, in supporting this extraordinary public school. The HCHS Parent-Teacher Association (HCHS PTA) helps bring families together while supporting programs, events, and initiatives that enrich the student experience. On this page, you’ll find several ways to connect with the community and get involved, whether you have a little time or a lot. It is truly our joy to welcome you into the HCHS parent community.

As you prepare for your Hunter journey, please keep an eye out for emails from the HCHS PTA (president@hunterpta.org) announcing opportunities to get to know your new community, such as picnics, school tours, potlucks, PTA General Meetings, our annual PTA Benefit Auction each spring, 7th Grade Rep elections, and more.

Once you receive your HCHS school login (Blackbaud account), please make sure your settings allow you to receive emails and messages from the PTA so you don’t miss important updates.

Congratulations and welcome to Hunter!

Warmly,

Hayrim Byun (class of 2028 parent)
Roseanne Ciparick Almanzar (class of 2027 & 2031 parent)

List of 5 items.

  • Incoming 7s Medical Requirements

Information regarding medical requirements will be made available once it is released by the state. We will need a form from your doctor (CH 205) as well as additional documentation if your child has allergies.

The expected release of medical requirements is April. We will update this page once the information is released.
  • Special Education Resources

Eri Silverstein, our Special Education Liaison, offers assistance with parents of children who will use a learning plan during their time at Hunter. Hunter is committed to providing a learning community that meets the needs of all students.

For more information, please visit her page here.
  • Parent Community Groups

The HCHS PTA values and celebrates the many identities, backgrounds, and perspectives that make up our school. Supporting belonging and connection across our community is an important part of our mission.

Below are Hunter parent affinity groups and community organizations where families can connect, share experiences, and support one another.

    Mosaic

Mosaic is a (K-12) PTA committee dedicated to supporting an inclusive environment across Hunter College Campus Schools. Mosaic’s mission includes fostering important conversations that increase mutual understanding and strengthen our sense of community within the school and the broader society.

Anyone interested in supporting and enhancing inclusion and belonging at HCHS is encouraged to contribute. Beyond interest and enthusiasm, a useful skill is the ability to help identify engaging speakers for our monthly meetings and evening events.

The PTA also works closely with the following parent affinity groups, which support their communities through meetings, activities, and events often co-sponsored with the PTA:

    • Association of Latin and Hispanic Familias y Amigos (ALHFA) – alhfa@hunterpta.org
    • Chinese American Parents Association (CAPA) – capa@hunterpta.org
    • Jewish Affinity Group (JAG) – jag@hunterpta.org
    • Korean American Parents Association (KAPA) – kapa@hunterpta.org
    • Parents of African-American Children (PAAC) – paac@hunterpta.org
    • Parents of Children with Accommodations (POCA) – poca@hunterpta.org
    • Parent Pride Alliance (PPA) – pride@hunterpta.org
    • South Asian Affinity Group (SAAG) – saag@hunterpta.org
  • Become a Grade 7 Representative

A longstanding tradition of the HCHS PTA is reserving a position on the PTA Board for a parent or guardian of a rising 7th grader.

The Grade 7 Rep (or Reps, who may share the vote) is a full voting member of the PTA Board and serves as a liaison between seventh-grade families and the PTA. The Grade 7 Rep also works with Travel Class Reps to coordinate class communications, events, and PTA initiatives throughout the year, and many parents find it to be a great way to get to know the Hunter community early and meet other families in their child’s grade.

The PTA Board typically meets on the evening of the first Monday of each month, with most meetings held via Zoom.

Serving as Grade 7 Rep is a wonderful way to stay connected to the life of the school while working with engaged members of the Hunter community.

Whether or not you have previous PTA experience, if serving on the HCHS PTA Board interests you, or if you simply have questions about the role, please reach out to Hayrim and Roseanne at president@hunterpta.org.

If you are interested in running for Grade 7 Rep, please fill out this form.
  • Neighborhood Commuting Connections

HCHS is a citywide school, with students traveling from all across New York City. Many students also participate in extracurricular activities that make their daily schedules varied and unique.

Because of this, the PTA is not able to centrally organize bus routes or rideshare programs. However, we are happy to help connect families who live in the same neighborhoods and are interested in organizing commuting groups or rideshare arrangements.

We can also connect you with current Hunter families in your area who may be able to share commuting strategies. If you would like an introduction to families in your neighborhood, please fill out our brief questionnaire.
