    Admissions for entry into the seventh grade of Hunter High School are currently closed. Applications are expected to open in late September or early October.

    NYS exam scores for Math and ELA have been released only to parents, not to Hunter. Hunter intends to post qualifying scores in mid-September.

    Please note that the seventh grade is the only entry point into HCHS. No transfers or upper grade applications are accepted.

Welcome to Hunter College High School (HCHS)

Hunter College High School (HCHS) is a part of the Hunter College Campus Schools, the laboratory schools of the City University of New York administered by Hunter College. Our high school serves students in grades 7-12. The only entry year for HCHS is 7th grade.

We serve students who demonstrate advanced cognitive ability and prepare them to be life-long learners and leaders. We assist in the development of creative, intellectually-curious, and original thinkers who are passionate about learning. Our schools use the principles of gifted education, including depth, complexity, challenge, enrichment, and acceleration of the curriculum, to meet the needs of intellectually-advanced students.

On these pages you will find general information about the HCHS admission process for 7th grade. HCHS does not accept inquiries or applications for any other grade. (Students are not admitted into grades 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12. There are NO exceptions to grade entry.)

  • 7th Grade Admissions for Fall 2026

    The HCHS application for 7th grade entry in Fall 2025 is closed. Applications for 7th grade entry in the 2026-2027 school year will open in Fall 2025.

    The Hunter College High School entrance exam took place on January 24th, 2025. We do not have a projected date for the 2026 entrance exam.
