Thank you for your interest in Hunter!
Hunter's high school admissions office services admissions for seventh grade only. In order to apply for the coming year, children must:
- be in the sixth grade at an NYC or neighboring school, and
- hold primary residency (i.e. dependent listed on IT-201 tax document) in one of the five boroughs of New York City, as of October 1st of the application year, and
- be eligible according to the published criteria of the application year, with a score report from a standardized 5th grade exam.
Hunter's seventh grade admissions is a two part process: the application and the exam.
On our application, we will ask you to provide us with a valid score report for a fifth grade exam. Valid exams include: primarily the NYS exams or an approved nationally normed independent exam
taken at a school (exams listed on the Eligibility page are subject to change). Hunter looks at the Reading Comprehension and Math sections of exams
only, and will not include other sections such as the science portion of the NYS exam. Cutoff scores to apply will be announced once we have received scoring data from New York City Public Schools. Scores will be verified with your child's school after submission of the application.
The second part of our application is the entrance exam. Testing is in person on one day, with no make-ups or alternate dates. For more information on our exam and some practice materials, visit
this page. Please fill out the inquiry form below if you'd like to join our mailing list. Over the next few months, we will announce when our eligibility criteria are released, when our application opens, and the date of the exam, as well as any new information about our process.
We look forward to hearing from you!
