20 Years of HCHS accomplishments in the Random House Foundation's CREATIVE WRITING COMPETITION
The Random House Foundation released a collection celebrating 20 years of encouraging "exemplary displays of self-expression in stories, poems, memoirs, plays, and since 2003, graphic novels" in NYC. Hunter College High School has had 96 winners in the last twenty years. The Random House Foudations singled-out our own HS English teachers, Kip Zegers and Richard Roundy, for special thanks for being "motivating teachers without whom this program could not exist."
Over the past twenty years, the Random House Creative Writing Competition has generated thousands of essays for scholarship consideration from NYC high school seniors "with a strong, clear, voice, who are daring, original and unafraid to take risks." To date, the program has awarded more than two million dollars in scholarships to public high school students for original poetry, memoirs, fiction, drama and graphic novel compositions.
