4 PSAL City Championships – 5 PSAL City Finalist - 20 PSAL Playoff Runs - 6 Borough Championships - 12 Division Championships - 5 Undefeated teams - 6 Teams Ranked #1 in NYC – 2 teams ranked number one in NEW YORK STATE. SIX NEW YORK STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS - A FIRST IN HUNTER HS HISTORY! This year was one to remember for Hunter athletics with FOUR PSAL CITY CHAMPIONSHIPS AND FIVE PSAL FINALIST. For the second year in a row, Boys’ Varsity Fencing won a PSAL CITY CHAMPIONSHIP. Girls ’ Varsity Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor track captured the first in school history- TRIPLE CROWN – winning three back to back to back city championships. This is only the 2nd time in NYC history. Lastly, in one epic weekend in June – Hunter won five state championships. Sophia Li finished #1 in NY STATE IN GIRLS GOLF, Dylan Mcelhinney won the State Triple crown to match Hunter track legend Shola Lynch - Dylan won the 800, 1500 and the 4 X 800 relay. Shane Murphy finished #1 in New York State in the 3200 and the girls track and field 4X800 relay team won finished #1 in states – Ella Cohen, Dylan Mcelhinney, Noa Yirmiyahu and Jasper Newton. So many individual accomplishments this year for Hunter; Dylan Jovanovic (PSAL Soccer), Kyler Swiatocha (PSAL Tennis), Rebecca Sonn Lees(PSAL Track and Field) and Shane Murphy(PSAL Track and Field) won the prestigious PSAL Wingate award, the award is honors the most accomplished student-athlete in each sport in New York City. 14 students won the Hunter - 12 Season award, honoring a student-athlete that letters in three varsity sports for all four years – Sophia Li finished 1st in states as a junior in Golf and won the individual PSAL championship. Dylan McElhinney, Ella Cohen, Shane Murphy, Henry Koike-Sieira, Isaac Cohen, Elijah Brickman, Rebecca Sonn Lees, Noa Yirmiyahu, Jasper Newton all made marks at states and competed at the nationals for Hunter track and field – all four set both school and PSAL all-time records. Track and Field sent both cross country, indoor and outdoor teams to states and both indoor teams competed at the Penn Relays. Dylan will move on to represent the USA in the Worlds in Lima, Peru. Boys MS soccer won the MSAL soccer uptown championship and MSAL city championship. Girls MS softball won the Uptown championship. We also captured a MS wrestling city championship. Girls Volleyball, Boys Volleyball, Boys and Girls Basketball all made deep playoff runs - MS Lacrosse teams, Boys MS baseball, Coed flag football won playoff games and COED cross country and outdoor track and field both set Hunter school records and were among the top runners in NYC. Hunter Athletics also introduced MS Fencing and MS Badminton. Overall it was another impressive year and showcased Hunter Athletics' bright future. GO HAWKS !! |
