Celebrating Black History and Achievement at HCES: Ron H. Brown

Ronald Harmon Brown (August 1, 1941 – April 3, 1996) was an American politician who broke many barriers. He was the first African American to serve as the US Secretary of Commerce and the first black chairman of a national political party, the DNC.   Patton, Boggs & Blow recruited  Mr. Brown, making him their first African American partner.  Born in Washington, DC and raised in Harlem, he attended Hunter College Elementary School before attending high school at the Rhodes School (at that time, HCHS was still an all girls school.)  Our playground is named in honor of his service and accomplishments.
