HCHS has big wins at National History Bee and Bowl Championships

From April 26th to April 28th, Hunter History Bowl competed at the National History Bee and Bowl National Championships, winning many awards.   The teams’ performances capped off an astounding year of regional success, with wins in every competition at all three regional tournaments.

  • The Junior Varsity History Bowl team won their division of 96 teams, taking home Hunter's second national championship!
  • The JV team reclaimed the title after Hunter's last win in 2015, avenging a devastatingly close loss in 2017. Led by the National Championship Team MVP, Pedro O.,  the team also consisted of Cerulean O., Ian L., and Jacob H-B.
  • The Junior Varsity B Team took 14th place, consisting of Andrew Z., Michael B., and Ella L.
  • The Varsity team took 11th place in their division, consisting of Team Captain Daniel M., Benjamin E., Brian L., and Alexis H.
But Hunter's team members also competed in individual events, where their achievements were perhaps just as impressive!
  • In Varsity, Daniel placed 3rd in the National History Bee, 2nd in the US Division of the International Geography Bee, and 2nd in the US Geography Olympiad, the last of which gave him a spot for the second year in a row on the four-person US National Team for Geography. He also was a quarterfinalist in the US History Bee.
  • In JV, Pedro was the national champion of the US History Bee, bringing home Hunter's first ever individual national championship in a history event! He also placed 2nd in the Sports and Entertainment Bee and was a National History Bee Semifinalist.
  • Ian L. was a US History Bee Semifinalist and he, Cerulean  and Jacob were all National History Bee Quarterfinalists. Hunter had four JV qualifiers for National History Bee playoffs, the largest number of students from any single school.

Congratulations to the whole team, with special thanks to advisor Ms. Ellen Fox for her time and dedication.
