Our Hunter College Elementary School chess players had an outstanding showing at the 2026 All-Girls National Chess Championship in Chicago this weekend.

Competing against strong teams from across the country, students demonstrated focus, determination, and a strong commitment to the game.

Team Results

  • Under 8: 3rd Place
    Zuria K., Noa P. (Kindergarten) Maya M., Andrea P. (1st grade), Ava O., Leah W., Makeda A . C. (2nd grade)
  • Under 12: 8th Place
    Dena W. , Maria C. B., Cosima J. C. (5th), Diana S., Grace C. (6th)
In addition to these team achievements, several students also earned notable individual placements within their respective sections, reflecting their continued growth and developing competitive strength.

What stood out throughout the event was the teamwork, encouragement, and resilience shown across all divisions. Their enthusiasm and sportsmanship reflect the very best of Hunter.

We are very proud of our students for their accomplishments and for representing Hunter with distinction at the national level.

Special thanks to Ben Gershenov, HCCS chess coach, for his exceptional leadership and dedication to developing young chess talent, and to David Heiser, CEO of the Renaissance Knights Chess Foundation (KCF), for his support and for his continued commitment to inspiring young players through the game of chess.
