Congratulations to Jay N (5Kruvi) for placing 1st in the 2025 New York City Spelling Bee Finals. Jay will be one of two spellers representing New York City at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May. Here's Jay in the championship round spelling "mediobrome".
On Monday, 11/18, HCCS was delighted to welcome Mr. Eddie Woo, the Australian HS Math teacher and author with a world-wide online following for his math videos on Youtube. Thanks to support of the PTA and our ES Math Specialist, Ms. Wolf and our HS Math Dept Chair, Mr. Owens, Mr. Woo presented fun and educational sessions to HCES parents, faculty and students and met with HS students and the HS Math teachers.
Every 4 years, Chess SuperNationals is held, which combines the Elementary School, Middle School and High School Championships. This is a fave chess event uniting all of our Hunter schools into a team of 53 players!
This past weekend in Orlando, FL, at the Chess SuperNationals VIII (with over 6,000 players), HCHS won trophies in both middle school and high school, click to read all the successes!
Bravo to ninth grade students Charlotte Y, and Kevin Z. and junior Danny S. for being selected to perform at Alice Tully Hall on the Lincoln Center campus last week. They performed a trio by D. Milhaud for violins and piano. With gratitude to Mr. Stratechuk for his support.

On Friday, April 25, Hunter's Environmental Action Team hosted Climate Day with speakers during 4 periods: Daniel Propp, energy and climate policy expert in the US Department of State's Bureau of Energy Resources; Shiv Soin and our own senior Iz G. from Treeage, a grassroots student-led climate advocacy organization; Larry Bock, who has contributed to Diamond Sustainability Standards and created the Carbon Negative Diamond Company; and Michael Brownstein, CUNY professor of philosophy who studies philosophical and sociological aspects of social change. All the speakers emphasized that students can make change in their own lives that contribute to greater impact by influencing peers and acting in groups to influence policy and societal behavior.
