Our Hunter College High School chess players delivered a strong performance at the 2026 All-Girls National Chess Championship in Chicago this weekend.

Competing against top teams from across the country, students demonstrated focus, discipline, and strong competitive play across multiple divisions.

Team Results

  • Under 14: 4th Place
    Sharlene Y., Emily C. (7th) Arabella F. (8th)
  • Under 16: 2nd Place
     Fiona T., Eleanor H. (9th), Lisa S. (10th)
In addition to team success, several students earned notable individual standings within their sections, reflecting both their preparation and continued growth as competitive players.

Throughout the tournament, students showed consistency, resilience, and strong sportsmanship in a highly competitive field. Their performance reflects the strength and depth of the program at the high school level.

We are proud of our students for representing Hunter with excellence at the national level.

Special thanks to Ben Gershenov, HCCS chess coach, for his exceptional leadership and dedication to developing young chess talent, and to David Heiser, CEO of the Renaissance Knights Chess Foundation (KCF), for his support and for his continued commitment to inspiring young players through the game of chess.
