Just Missed the Score?

We want to better understand the profiles of students who took a 5th grade standardized exam and came close to qualifying for the Hunter College High School (HCHS) entrance exam. If your student falls into one of these categories, we invite them to pursue this option.

IMPORTANT: To be eligible for AIP, students must meet the minimum scores in both ELA and Math (or Reading Comprehension and Math, depending on the exam). Students who fall below the minimum in either subtest are not eligible.

Did your student narrowly miss the cutoff score on one or both of the 5th grade NYS exams, but achieve a minimum score of 480 in ELA and a minimum score of 494 in math?

Did your student take another approved standardized exam* as a 5th grader and score within the 85th percentile in math and reading comprehension, but did not reach the 90th percentile in both?
Did your student take the ISEE and receive a stanine score of 7 in Reading Comprehension and Mathematics?

Students who meet these minimum thresholds may complete and submit the Academic Insights Profile. To find the form, visit the Ravenna website at https://www.ravenna-hub.com/schools/2262, create an account and student profile, then select Hunter College Campus Schools from the directory, and then select the Academic Insights Profile (AIP). Do not select "High School Application."

While selection is not guaranteed, students who submit an AIP may be invited to take the January entrance exam, subject to space availability at testing sites. All submissions will be reviewed after the HS Application closes. Final decisions will be communicated to families by January 9, 2026.

If my student scored 480 on the NYS ELA exam, but scored below 494 on the NYS math exam, can we submit the Academic Insights Profile?

No. Your student is not eligible to submit the Academic Insights Profile.
If my student achieved 500 on the NYS math exam, but 480 on the NYS ELA exam, which form do we submit?

Your student may only submit the Academic Insights Profile, not the standard application. Students must meet the minimum scores of 500 (Math) AND 486 (ELA) in order to apply with the standard application.
If my student took the Stanford 10 and scored in the 89^th percentile on Total Reading and in the 99^th percentile in Total Math, which form do we submit?

Your student may only submit the Academic Insights Profile, not the standard application. Students must meet have scored in the 90^th on both math and reading comprehension in order to apply with the standard application.
Where do I find the Academic Insights Profile?

The Academic Insights Profile will be available on Ravenna (our admissions platform).
What are the chances that my student will be selected to take the entrance exam? How can I improve my chances?

Selection depends on available testing space after the traditional application process closes. All submissions of the Academic Insights Profile will be reviewed, but there is no guaranteed outcome. There is no additional action that can improve your student's chances once the form is submitted.
If we submit the Academic Insights Profile, when will I know if my student is able to take the entrance exam?

All who complete the Academic Insights Profile will be notified on January 9. Families should not contact the admissions office with inquiries prior to this date.
Can I submit additional documents, such as a teacher’s recommendation, to supplement my student’s Academic Insights Profile?

No. There are no additional materials, including letters of recommendation, that will be accepted with the Academic Insights Profile. Only the information requested on the form will be considered.
If my student did not take any standardized exam in 5th grade, may we submit the Academic Insights Profile to have a chance at taking the exam?

No. If your student did not take any acceptable standardized exam in 5th grade, you must follow the instructions for "Candidates Without Exams" on the Eligibility page of the admissions site.
