Hunter Athletics Caps Off Record-Breaking 2025–26 Season

The 2025–26 school year was one of the most successful in Hunter College High School athletics history, highlighted by city championships, undefeated seasons, playoff runs, and standout individual performances.

Among the year's biggest accomplishments, Boys Varsity Fencing, coached by Nadia Nazarov and Eugene Nazarov, captured its second consecutive PSAL City Championship, while Girls Varsity Fencing completed an undefeated season and won another city title. Girls Varsity Volleyball, coached by Ellen Fox and Joon Kwon, advanced to the PSAL City Finals for the first time since 2017, led by seniors Gabby Y., Helena R., Michelle Z., and Juliette S.

On the soccer field, Boys Varsity Soccer, under the leadership of Sergio Montano and Matt Edelman, won the PSAL 3A Manhattan Division Championship behind captains Ian N., Hotaro K., and Bryan B-C. Winter brought more success as Girls Varsity Basketball, coached by Ellen Fox and Elizabeth Fox, completed a perfect 15–0 regular season, led by Clio M., Nessa P., Vivian O., and Daria W.

Spring highlights included a championship-game appearance by Girls Varsity Lacrosse, coached by Raymond Basso, while Girls Varsity Badminton, coached by Mannix Cheng, completed a perfect 10–0 regular season, captured the Manhattan Division Championship, and advanced to the PSAL Quarterfinals behind standout performances from Amy M., Chloe C., and Chloe D.

Hunter athletes also excelled individually. Alex H. won the PSAL 500 Freestyle, broke a school record, and qualified for the State Championships. Adam K. qualified for both the State Championships and Nike Nationals in track and field, while Nathan W. captured the PSAL Coed Golf Individual Championship. Across every season, Hawks athletes earned borough titles, All-City honors, and championship medals.

These accomplishments were celebrated at the annual Sports Banquet on June 1, recognizing the dedication of Hunter's student-athletes, coaches, managers, and Athletic Association members.
