Hunter K-5 Chess Team Earns 2nd place at the 2026 National Elementary Championship

We are thrilled to celebrate our Hunter College Elementary School chess players for an outstanding performance at the 2026 National Elementary Championship, held May 1–3 in Baltimore.

Our K–5 Championship team achieved an incredible 2nd place national finish, competing against top elementary school programs from across the country. The tournament also featured several memorable upset victories, adding to the excitement and pride felt across our Hunter chess community.

Equally inspiring was the strong sense of camaraderie among the team. Older and more experienced players consistently supported younger teammates, offering guidance, encouragement, and celebrating each other’s successes. This spirit of mentorship and collaboration reflects the best of what it means to be a Hunter student.

Team Results: K–5 Championship Division - 2nd Place Nationally
