Reduced Fee / Head Start Information

Families who need financial assistance for the Hunter College Elementary School application and testing fees may apply by selecting the Elementary School Reduced Fee Application type in Ravenna. Families with Head Start waiver codes should also select this application type.

To qualify for fee assistance, applicants must provide proof of current participation in an eligible Human Resources Administration (HRA) or other government-funded program (e.g., Cash Assistance, SNAP, housing or rental assistance, or DHS temporary housing). Medicaid and SSI are not accepted. A benefits or WIC card alone is not sufficient documentation.

Hunter's reduced-fee funds are limited, so families are encouraged to apply as early as possible.

We may also request proof of household income when determining eligibility. Income is one factor that may be considered, but is not the sole criterion for approval.

How to Apply for a Reduced Fee

Step 1: Create a Ravenna Account

Visit Ravenna and create a profile for your child.

Step 2: Select “Reduced Fee Application”

When choosing the application type, select Elementary School Reduced Fee Application to request financial assistance.
Do not select the “Elementary School Application” if you are applying for fee assistance.

Step 3: Complete the Application

Submit your application by paying the $20 processing fee.
If you have a Head Start waiver code, enter it at the payment step.
The deadline to apply is 2:00pm on Thursday, October 29, 2026.

Step 4: Provide Documentation

Families will be asked to provide documentation verifying participation in eligible assistance programs and may also be asked to provide proof of household income.

What Happens Next

Approved families will be invited to participate in a preliminary screening on a designated date in early November. Screening is by invitation only. Your child must be available to participate in the screening on that date.
You must submit the Reduced Fee application to be considered for the screening.
Children who qualify through the screening may be invited to complete the full admissions assessment at no cost to the family.
