List of 2 items.

  • What is the Academic Insights Profile (AIP)?

For students who just missed the score on one or both qualifying subtests, we invite you to fill out the Academic Insights Profile (AIP). If space is available after all regular HS applications are reviewed, AIP applicants may be contacted shortly before the entrance exam to offer them a seat. Selection is not guaranteed.
  • Is my child Eligible?

Candidates for the 2027 Hunter College High School (HCHS) Entrance Exam must meet all three criteria listed on the main HS Application page, but there is a different minimum score requirement for AIP, as specified in the "Qualification Exams” section below.

AIP is the ONLY backup option or exception for student who miss the standard qualifying score. Students who miss the AIP range (even by one point on one subtest) will not be able to retest or apply for HCHS. Do NOT submit the either application without having the minimum score.

Please select the category below that matches your child’s situation for information on how to qualify for AIP. Only one situation will apply.

(If your child was unable to take either NYS Exam in 5th grade, please see one of the other options below. We will verify that they did not sit for the NYS Exam(s) with their counselor.)

To qualify for AIP, a qualifying score is needed on the 2026 5th grade NYS English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics exams. These minimum scores must be met for both exams. +
    • SP 26, ELA English Language Arts =  TBD

Are both scores higher than these ranges? Please submit an 'HS Application' for a guaranteed seat.

Copies of official score reports OR a screenshot from www.schoolsaccount.nyc must be uploaded in order to complete and submit the application. The report must display a three-digit score (as listed above); Hunter will not accept “level” or “percentage range” scores from the NYS exams. The student’s name, grade, scores, and exam year must be clearly visible.

In order to access your scores via NYC Schools Account (NYCSA):
    Go to https://www.schoolsaccount.nyc/

    • Once your page loads, go to My Student
    • Go to Assessments
    • The page will show the test results
  • …administers ONLY non-NYS Exams (including homeschool).

(If your child takes both NYS Exams and another type of exam, we will only accept the NYS Exam results as a qualifying score. See the “… administers NYS Exams” section above.)

The following exams can be used in place of NYS Exams for students whose schools do not administer NYS Exams:

    - ERB CTP 5 (Reading Comprehension + Mathematics Parts 1 & 2)

If the only exam your child took in 5th grade is listed as unacceptable, please see the instructions for students who did not take exams below.

Families seeking approval for another standardized exam -- other than the ones listed above -- should email the report to the Admissions Office for review before applying.
  • …does NOT administer ANY standardized exams.
