HCCS was pleased to welcome Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, Hunter College President Jennifer Raab, Councilmember Keith Powers and Candidate for NY Assembly District 73 (and HCHS alum!) Alex Bores for a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Carnegie Hill Neighbors to celebrate the gift of the newly installed tree pits surrounding the Campus Schools.
On Wednesday, October 19th, HCES celebrated UNITY DAY with class and extracurricular activities highlighting Kindness, Acceptance, and Inclusion. Students and Faculty were invited to wear ORANGE in unity to celebrate these important principles in the Hunter Community. Extra-special fun during lunch time included HCHS Big Sibs who had taught HCHS 8th grade students a unity dance being shared bythe middle school students who taught HCES first grade students the dance in the courtyard.
The lovely 3rd grade Morgan Book Project celebrated the special recognition of submissions in NYC. At the awards Ceremony last week, two books created by students of Ms. Kruvi (Aurelia L. & Elenore W.) were displayed and can still be seen as part of the special exhibition in the Morgan's South Court June 7 - August 21. Special congratulations to Aurelia who received the Director's Choice Award and to Elenore who was one of the Judge's Choices.
Congratulations to our Middle School Chess team. They competed at the 2022 National Middle School Championships in Texas this weekend and after some really tough playing brought home the Championship Trophy! Find out more here: National Middle School Championships - Chess Life Online
Members of the chess team participated in the All-Girls National Chess Championships in Chicago. The Under 12 team [Lisa S (6), Fiona T (5), Indira V(5)] won 1st place and are the Under 12 National Champions. Lisa S. won 7th place individually.
The Under 8 team [Dena W (1), Layo A(2), Audem B(2), Diana S(2)] won 3rd place. Dena won 1st place and is the National champion. This win earns her the right to represent the US at the 2022 World Cadet Championship.
Phoebe M (4) played in the Under 10 division as well.
