From Campus to Community: A Collaborative Planting Project

A cherished tradition of the Hunter College High School Horticultural Society continues to bloom each spring, bringing beauty to the campus and the surrounding Carnegie Hill neighborhood. This year, the Society extended the project to include Hunter College Elementary School students, inviting them to take part in the planting effort.

Working alongside members of the Horticultural Society of HCHS, Elementary School students planted colorful flowers in the street tree beds and planters surrounding the school. With support from Hawks' Nest, faculty, and parent volunteers, students contributed to a project that strengthens Hunter's connection to the neighborhood while fostering stewardship and community pride.

The result is a more vibrant campus and community, an effort that has been warmly appreciated by local residents. One Carnegie Hill neighbor shared:

"We have noticed your lovely blooming plants recently added to the street tree beds surrounding the Hunter School. It all looks lovely indeed! Please thank your student gardeners for their hard work. We Carnegie Hill neighbors greatly appreciate their work on these tree beds, adding to the beauty of the area."

We extend our gratitude to the members of the High School Horticultural Society for carrying forward this meaningful tradition and for welcoming younger students into the project. Thank you as well to the Elementary School student gardeners, Hawks' Nest staff, and parent volunteers whose efforts helped make this year's planting a success.
