HCHS Students compete at NYSSEF Round 2: Congrats to Soleil and Angela!

HCCS celebrates the terrific accomplishments of student scientists, Soleil W and Angela W at yesterday's NYSEEF Round 2 competition.

Soleil's research earned a second place finish!  Her work aims to elucidate the effect of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) on the stimulation of ovarian cancer growth, and the efficacy of a first-in-class humanized FSH-blocking antibody to inhibit this growth. Her proof-of-concept in-vitro work suggests potential for a novel ovarian cancer therapeutic in-vivo.

Angela's study--which earned an Honorable Mention-- uncovers for the first-time potential resistance mechanisms of emerging lung cancer mutations using fruit fly (Drosophila) models. It has identified an underappreciated drug candidate that significantly outperforms existing FDA-approved drugs, holding immense clinical implications and serving as a significant step toward personalized cancer therapy.

CONGRATULATIONS Angela and Soleil!
