We’re excited that you’re exploring the Hunter College Campus Schools as a possible educational home for your child. Hunter College Elementary School (HCES) is the kindergarten through sixth grade school; Hunter College High School (HCHS) serves grades 7-12. They are the laboratory schools of the City University of New York and together, they are known as the Hunter College Campus Schools. Our schools are not affiliated with the New York City Department of Education. Each school has one entry point – Kindergarten is the entry point for the Elementary School and 7th grade is the entry point for the High School.
Our schools are publicly-funded (tuition free) and serve a diverse population of children who have been identified as intellectually talented. The curriculum at each school is characterized by high expectations and designed to facilitate the development of students’ intellectual, critical and creative thinking skills.
In these pages, you can learn everything you need to know about applying to each of our schools. We encourage you to explore the HCES and HCHS sites to get an understanding of the wealth of opportunities available at our schools.
Admission to our schools is competitive and selective, based on careful processes designed to identify students who will be successful in our program. Yet we hope you will consider Hunter, and give your child a chance to compete for a seat at one of our schools.
Best of luck to your family in your school search process,
