History Bowl Team Wins Biggest Regional of the Year!

The Hunter History Bowl Club swept both the JV and Varsity divisions in individual and team events at the National History Bee and Bowl New Jersey State Championships on Saturday! This tournament was the second largest History Bowl regional in history, with 81 teams, and Hunter nevertheless overcame the great odds.

History Bowl is a team competition of history understanding and knowledge with long questions (tossups) requiring buzzers and shorter bonus questions on which the team collaborates. History Bee is the individual version of this competition, with only tossups.

The varsity team, with Brian L. (12), Benjamin E. (11), and captain Daniel M. (12), won the History bowl, while Daniel M. won the History Bee on the tiebreaker question after a very tense final, where he played alongside teammate Brian L.

Not to be outdone, the junior varsity team, with Ella L. (10), Ian L. (8), and captain Cerulean O. (10), also won the History Bowl. Cerulean O. broke a five-way tie in the History Bee final on the last question to end as the individual champion, while middle schooler Ian L. continued his meteoric rise by qualifying for the finals as well.

Hunter History Bowl meets Thursdays after 8th period in Room 206. We’d love any interested people to join us!
