Hunter College Celebrates AUDRE LORDE WAY with HCHS AACS

Hunter College celebrated the renaming of the intersection of Lexington and E 68th as AUDRE LORDE WAY with President Jennifer J. Raab and NYC Council Member Keith Powers on Tuesday May 10, 2022.
Members of the HCHS AACS joined Principal Dr. Fisher and Director Siegmann in celebrating the legacy of HCHS ('51) and Hunter College ('59) Alumna Audre Lorde.  Known for her poetry, prose, activism and proud self-identification as a "black, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet", as a Professor English at Hunter College, she was awarded the Thomas Hunter Distinguished Professor award, and was named an American Book Award Winner in 1989.  Audre Lorde was the New York State Poet Laureate 1991-92.
