Hunter Celebrates Record-Breaking Season

 2025–26 Annual Sports Banquet
The 2025–26 school year will be remembered as one of the most successful and exciting in Hunter College High School athletics history. From city championships and division titles to historic victories and individual honors, Hunter athletes and coaches delivered memorable performances throughout the year.

By the Numbers

  • 2 PSAL City Championships
  • 1 Individual New York City PSAL Champion
  •  7 Undefeated Teams
  •  9 Division Championships
  •  21 Playoff Victories
  • 8 New York State Championship Qualifiers
  •  2 PSAL City Finalists
The Hawks captured PSAL City Championships in Boys and Girls Varsity Fencing, while Girls Varsity Volleyball and Girls Varsity Lacrosse each advanced to their respective PSAL City Championship games. Led by coaches Nadia Nazarov, Eugene Nazarov, Ellen Fox, Joon Kwon, and Raymond Basso, these teams helped define a remarkable year for Hunter Athletics.

Individual athletes also made history. Palmer V. ('29) won the PSAL Individual Co-Ed Golf Championship, Chloe D. ('28) captured the Manhattan Individual Badminton Championship, and Brian W. ('26) finished first in foil competition in New York City. Hunter also produced eight New York State Championship qualifiers, including standout athletes Alex H. ('27) and Adam K. ('26).

Several signature victories highlighted the season. Boys Varsity Soccer, coached by Sergio Montano and Matt Edelman, defeated nationally ranked Martin Luther King Jr. High School, while Boys Varsity Swimming earned its first win over Bronx Science in 15 years. Boys Varsity Basketball swept three visiting teams from Australia, and Girls Varsity Soccer and Girls Varsity Swimming earned memorable victories over LGA High School.

Beyond competition, Hunter expanded its international athletic partnerships by hosting teams from England and Australia. The year also celebrated academic and athletic excellence, with Sabine C. ('26) receiving the NY1 Scholar-Athlete Award and seven seniors earning the prestigious HCHS 12-Season Award.

Three seniors will continue their athletic careers at the NCAA level: Adam K. at Haverford College, Bryan B-C. at Brandeis University, and Silver H. at Bryn Mawr College.

Congratulations to all of the Hawks who made this record-breaking year possible! We would like to extend a special thank you to Athletic Director Mr. Potter and to the PTA Presidents Roseanne Almanzar and Hayrim Byun. From championships and playoff runs to individual honors, the 2025–26 season demonstrated the strength and spirit of Hunter Athletics. Go Hawks, go!!
